The Red Cross philosophy is that the blood supply is a community responsibility – not a family responsibility – thereby eliminating the need for families to replace or provide blood.
Over the past year, the Catawba Valley Chapter held approximately 350 blood drives, collecting 17,500 units of life-saving blood. These tremendous results are due to more than 100 blood drive sponsors in Alexander, Caldwell and Catawba Counties. Blood donors must be at least 16 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health.
Dates and times are subject to change. For more information or to hear the latest blood drive schedule, call the Catawba Valley Chapter of the Red Cross at (828) 322-4151.
As sometimes blood drives change at the last minute, it is a good idea to check on the drives before attending.

How to Give
|
|
It's easy. Just answer these three questions: 1. Are you 17 years old or older (or 16 years of age with parental consent)? 2. Do you weigh 110 pounds or more? 3. Are you generally in good health? If you answered "Yes" to all three questions, then you can probably donate blood. Most people can! Please call 1-800-GIVE LIFE or use our blood drive search to find a donor location near you. If you have already donated blood, you need only wait 56 days before making another donation. For answers to some commonly asked eligibility questions, please download our Donor Medical Eligibility pamphlet. Most donors only give once or twice a year, though they can give up to six times per year. If every donor gave just one more donation a year, there would always be enough blood for everyone and anyone in need. How to be a platelet donor If you are eligible to donate blood, you are also eligible to donate platelets.
